Kentucky's Most Recognized Farm

Historic Manchester Farm is a commercial Thoroughbred nursery for breeding and selling young racehorse prospects. Located in the heart of the Bluegrass, next to Keeneland Race Track, Manchester Farm holds the distinction as one of the most recognizable farms in Kentucky. This historic property is owned by Houston Oilman Mike G. Rutherford, who purchased the Farm in 1976.

Manchester Farm is respected worldwide as the home of a bouquet band of exceptional females. Manchester Farm foals between 15-20 babies a year, selling the majority as yearlings. To date, Rutherford has bred or raced over 70 stakes horses. Learn more about Manchester Farm

Rutherford has sold many wonderfully bred females such as Cara Rafaela, Grade 1 winner and a Kentucky Broodmare of the Year after producing three-year-old champion Bernardini, who is now a prominent sire. Other top producers include Palangana, dam of champion Informed Decision, Rumored, dam of 2011 European champion two-year-old Dabirsim, Val Maria, dam of Canadian turf champion Grand Adventure, and Candytuft, dam of two-time champion Midnight Lute, yet another emerging young sire.

Manchester Farm is also the home of past highweighted two-year-old filly, Twilight Ridge, and co-highweighted three-year-old filly, Lakeway.

Rutherford’s business model is surrounding himself with the very best people, and participating at the top level in Thoroughbred female families. Learn more about Mike G. Rutherford
